Dance 2D Rhythm Studio Class Descriptions Macumba® - Land of Dance Macumba® is dance fitness. Macumba® is a type of aerobic discipline meant to tone, burn calories, and generate excitement. It is infused with Caribbean rhythms, African energy, and Latin dance. It was created by Max Imperoli, who is credentialed with an advanced degree in Physical Education from I.S.E.F., a state university in Italy. Macumba® as a sport is designed to be so much fun that you don't remember you're exercising, but thanks to the education of it's creator, it's also designed to tone your body while staying within safe guidelines and the limits of the human anatomy. Macumba® first started 18 years ago in Rome, Italy. Creator Max Imperoli was recognized for his amazing physical fitness capabilities and program in schools and universities, and was quickly snatched up by the board of Physical Education and Fitness in Italy known as A.S.D. They, along with Max came up with the name "Macumba" many years after he had already been successfully teaching the program in Italy. But why the name “Macumba” you may ask? Macumba® is a symbolic expression of our love for all things Brazilian and African. When you pronounce it, you cannot avoid thinking about the jungles of Africa and Brazil, the fiery mist shrouded dances and the native culture! The word Macumba® is actually of African origins. The early Brazilian mystical-religious groups that were identified by the word "Macumba" used a form of dance as part of their rituals. The dance form was so unique and interesting that over the years it became more well known than the mystics that began it. While the word may have an unusual history of usage in Brazil, today it refers to the dance form upon which we have based this fitness system. In a Macumba® class you will use simple yet alluring dance steps to burn massive amounts of calories. The routines are choreographed not just to maximize the energy used during a class, but to move from muscle group to muscle group so that you get a complete workout without over extending any single body part. The choreography is fun and sometimes provocative, but always in good taste. Macumba® has become a well known form of fitness in Europe and many other countries and is quickly spreading worldwide! We are proud to be a part of this amazing workout program!

Belly Dancing Why Should I learn to belly dance? Belly dancing helps with physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual expansion. Belly dancing introduces one to a multitude of creative, social, cultural and fantasy avenues. Belly dancing combines dance movement with the crafts of drama, costuming, exercise, and self expression. The world of belly dance has many facets that may not be recognized by popular society all at once. Of course, the simplest benefit achieved is exercise. In today’s world, we are all in search of an engaging physical practice that can keep us healthy. Beneath the surface of its fitness appeal however, is a supportive sisterly community that shares a common understanding about what it’s like to be a woman and the liberating need to express oneself through the body.
Capoeira: The Dance - Fight Art What is Capoeira? Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art with African roots created by slaves to fight for their freedom. Since practicing any form of self-defense was prohibited to the slaves, Capoeira was disguised as a dance which was usually accompanied by an African instrument called berimbau. Hundreds of years later, capoeira is still practiced in the streets of Brazil as a sport, as a dance, as a martial art and a way of expressing their culture. What makes Capoeira different from the other martial arts? When martial arts are mentioned, people usually think about karate or kung fu. However, when capoeira is mentioned, people think about dance, kicks, acrobatics and music not knowing that it is also a martial art. The reason why capoeira is considered a dance for many people is because of two things, its continuous flow of moves and because defensive movements concentrate on dodging rather than blocking. Since dodging kicks allows the two "capoeiristas" to continue creating movements, many even get the impression that it is a choreography. Capoeira is an attractive sport because of the fluidity of its movements directly related to the rhythm of African-Brazilian music, the ability of "playing" capoeira instead of fighting, the mood and energy capoeira produces when "played" and the physical and mental benefits developed during its practice. All these characteristics make people look capoeira as more than just a martial art. Many people join capoeira for being a dance, an aerobic sport, music, culture or acrobatics. What are the benefits of Capoeira? As a martial art, capoeira offers self-defense skills, improves reflexes, coordination, strength, flexibility and increase their confidence. Nevertheless, Capoeira focuses in body rhythm, usually accompanied by traditional African-Brazilian music, self-expression, creativity and having fun. Capoeira students also learn how to play some of the traditional music instruments and some acrobatic movements.
